Conor McGregor knocks out Miami Heat mascot in bizarre promotion at NBA Finals
During
Game 4 of the NBA Finals between the Miami Heat and the Denver Nuggets, former UFC champion Conor McGregor's midgame bit took an unfortunate turn as he accidentally knocked out the Miami Heat mascot.
Following the incident, the individual inside the Burnie costume sought immediate medical attention due to the two punches received from McGregor during a stoppage in the third quarter. The Heat organization confirmed that the unidentified employee was provided with pain medication and is currently recovering at home.
McGregor's presence at the game was part of a promotional stunt for a pain-relief spray, although he was met with boos from the Miami crowd even before the bit commenced. The flame-clad mascot was outfitted with oversized boxing gloves and a robe reminiscent of a fighter entering the ring. McGregor delivered a left hook, causing the mascot to fall to the ground, and proceeded to throw another punch while the mascot was down.
Following the incident, McGregor attempted to "spray" the mascot with the pain-relief product while members of the
Heat's in-game promotional team swiftly escorted the mascot off the court.
