Test Championship Australia squad 2023

David Warner has recovered from an elbow injury sustained during the Test series in India and has been included in Australia's 17-player touring party for the ICC World Test Championship final against India at The Oval and the opening two Ashes Tests.

Pat Cummins, who had left the tour of India early to be with his sick mother, will return to captain the squad. The 17 players selected will be available for the WTC final against India and the opening two Ashes Tests at Edgbaston and Lord's.

After the second Ashes Test, selectors will assess the squad's composition and have the option to make changes for the remaining matches against England at Headingly, Old Trafford, and The Oval.

A 15-player squad for the ICC World Test Championship final will be announced on May 28. Warner will have the opportunity to improve his recent record, which includes only one century in 32 Test innings since the beginning of 2021, and a low average of 9.5 on the last Ashes tour in 2019.

Usman Khawaja is expected to partner with Warner as an opener, while Marcus Harris and Matt Renshaw are alternative options. Harris has been recalled to the squad along with all-rounder Mitchell Marsh and wicketkeeper Josh Inglis. Ashton Agar, Peter Handscomb, Mitchell Swepson, and Matt Kuhnemann were not retained from the squad that toured India. Lance Morris has been ruled out due to injury.

The World Test Championship final marks the culmination of over two years of consistent performance at the Test level by the team and its players. It is followed by the highly anticipated Ashes series.

Australia will face India in the World Test Championship final at The Oval from June 7-11, followed by the first Ashes Test against England at Edgbaston from June 16-20.
